Annual Meeting 2023

2023-2024 Annual Meeting

On September 20, the BHS conducted its annual meeting at the Bedford Town Hall.  The slate of officer’s for 2023-2024 was approved and a short overview was provided of past activities.  These included:

*  Annual Clothing Drive
*  Holiday Boutique
*  Three Speaker Events
*  Cataloging and Organizing Work
*  Inquiry Assistance
*  Retrieval of Antique Farm Equipment discovered on Conservation Land

The highlight of the meeting was a presentation by one of our directors, Ron Carvalho.  Ron investigated and presented the story of Private Houston, nephew of the first pastor of the Bedford Presbyterian Church.  He became a young veteran of the American Revolutionary War and died in uncertain circumstances near Fort Ticonderoga, NY.

Curious Gravestones in Northern New England, April 26, 2023

Talk by Ron Romano.  Come join us for desserts and a lecture by Author Ron Romano on the hidden treasures in our New Hampshire cemeteries. Ron has traveled the back roads of Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire in search of these unusual “Billboard Monuments” and tells the compelling stories of people they memorialize.

We heard Claira’s presentation to the Bedford Women’s Club last year and asked her to share it with the Bedford Historical Society. A truly humorous, heartfelt and poignant talk…Claira’s own version of the “American Experience.” Come join us, you will not soon forget her story.
